A supersonic car that can go 1000 mph!

Bloodhound SSC is a supersonic car currently in development. Its goal is to attain a 1,000 miles per hour world land speed record. The team aims to break the land speed record with the pencil-shaped car, powered by a jet engine and a rocket designed to reach 1,000 miles per hour together with a Cosworth CA2010 Formula 1 V8 petrol engine auxiliary power unit. It is being developed and built with the intention of breaking the land speed record by 33%, the largest ever margin.

Runway testing of up to 200 miles per hour is scheduled to take place early 2014. Bloodhound SSC will then be tested on the Hakskeen Pan in the Mier area of the Northern Cape, South Africa where a track 12 miles long, 2 miles wide has been cleared.
